The 2016 Yellowstone Volcanic eruption was the worst volcanic eruption in US history, slightly bigger then previous eruptions from yellowstone.

The Beginning[]

On February 16, 2016, a magnitude 6.3 earthquake ruptured in the center of Yellowstone National Park, in Wyoming. Its epicenter was only 1.4 miles NNW of Old Faithful. It was felt 85 miles from the epicenter. Being one of the strongest quake in almost 10 years on the continental US, it caught most people offguard. The earthquake caused a total of $102.5 million (2015 USD) and killing 16 people, most people thought that the worst was over. Little did they know that this was the begging of a historic event.

The Eruption[]

At 3:12 PM, February 28, 2016, Yellowstone National Park was erased from the face of the earth. The earth below the park shot a blast of lave, ash, and smoke into the air, raining down hot, flaming rocks down over a 350 mile radios. The amount of energy the volcano released was that equivalent to almost 1 million bombs the size of the one dropped on Hiroshima. It wiped out everything within 150 miles of the volcano, and heavily damaged everything within 5000 miles of the volcano. It spewed thousands of tons of poisonous gases into the air, along with even more ash and smoke, blanketing the atmosphere. The blast killed almost 2 million people, and injured millions more and cause over $1trillion (2015 USD).

The Aftermath[]

After the main eruption, there were about 5 more smaller eruptions. Along with the eruptions, there were almost 250,000 earthquakes, all of which where 4.0+, with the biggest being a 8.8. The main eruption also wiped out an eighth of the country, killing about 4.5 million people, and causing $7.36trillion (2015 USD) in damages. The disaster also annihilated 5 major cities, LA, San Diego, Phoenix, Denver, and Oklahoma City. The ash and smoke in the air made the global temperature drop by 30 degrees Fahrenheit, causing widespread famine. This was one of the worlds worst disasters in history.
